Van Helsing, PG-13
Review by Audrey Baggs

This action adventure, horror movie has some comedy, but goes back to the horror
movies of the old days. We meet Frankenstein, the Wolfman, and Dracula in Transylvania in 1887.
Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman- X-Men, Swordfish) is a warrior of the church against all these evil
creatures .His sidekick is reminiscent of “M” in the Bond movies--a friar, but he keeps Van Helsing
equipped with new weapons on all his adventures and must go along on this trip to aid Van Helsing.
They go to Transylvania to try and protect Anna (Kate Beckinsale- Pearl Harbor, Underworld), the
last survivor of her family. Anna is a strong female who has been battling the creatures, on her own,
for years. Unless they save Anna, all her ancestors are doomed to hell. Dracula and his brides want
to kill Anna. They also need Frankenstein in order for their hundreds of children to be born and
ravish the earth. This is a big, noisy, creature ridden film that is a lot of fun. The special effects are
fabulous. All the creatures are wonderful and the movie doesn't take itself too seriously. There is a
galore of bad creatures surrounding the unborn children.
Frankenstein is a kind and gentle, misunderstood man. Some actions are so ridiculous they make
you laugh. There is non-stop creature action, violence, and frightening images. There is some
romance but nothing too obvious. This is an entertaining movie for families with children 13 and
older who do not frighten easily. It's so bizarre that it isn't really very scary. I think this is a film
to rent at home for the family to watch.

The Whole Ten Yards, PG-13
Review by Audrey Baggs

This film is a sequel to the hit movie of 2000 "The Whole Nine Yards".
Jimmy the Tulip (Bruce Willis- Die Hard, The Jackal) is a retired hit man hiding in Mexico from
the mob. Oz (Matthew Perry- Friends t.v. series, Three To Tango) is still a dentist and he has
married Jimmy's ex-wife (Natasha Henstridge- Bounce, The Whole Nine Yards). Meanwhile,
Jimmy has married Oz's dental assistant (Amanda Peet- Saving Silverman, Identity).
Everyone is happy on his or her own until an old mobster (Kevin Pollak- Santa Claus 2, 3000
Mile To Graceland) gets out of prison. He is looking for Jimmy and tries to go through Oz to
find out where he is. Oz's wife is kidnapped and he goes to ask Jimmy for help. Guns are
blasting, people are dying, and a fortune is hidden somewhere.
Kevin Pollak is hilarious as the head of the Hungarian mafia. Bruce Willis does a good job as
a hit man turned housekeeper and cook. Playing opposites, Perry and Willis have good
chemistry together-Jimmy is the macho hit man and Oz is the timid suburbanite. Amanda Peet
is funny as she tries to become a hit man, but she never successfully kills anyone. Somehow,
they all die in other ways. There is a lot of good comedy, along with sexual content, violence,
and some language. The violence is mostly comic, but the language and sexual situations may
be more then you want a 13-year-old to see. This film is good enough to see in the theatres.
